School Internship Phase II - Week 9

The School Internship Phase II - week 7 was from 7/08/2023 to 8/08/2023. On 7/08/2023, there was a special assembly organized by Social Science club as a part of Hiroshima day. The students organized the assembly and Govardhan from 9A gave a message about the historical background and impacts of Hiroshima war on the world. The JRC cadets also became a part of the program. The theme of the IT freedom fest was read by Jia from X B.  I had class at VII B in the fifth period and conducted the achievement test in physics for the chapter Motion. The test was for 45 minutes and carries 25 marks.

On 8/8/2023, it was the last day of our School Internship Phase II. In the staff meeting, HM in charge appreciated our effort to take the class properly and also expressed their gratitude for being a part of all school programs. In the afternoon session, I went to VIII B  and IX A and thanked the students for their cooperation and participation in the classroom activities. We also expressed our sincere gratitude to the HM, teachers, subject teachers and non-teaching staff for their support and guidance. Overall, the school internship was a nice experience for us.

                      

                

                         

School Internship Phase II - Week 8

The School Internship Phase II - week 8 was from 31/07/2023 to 4/08/2023.  On 31/07/2023, I had class at VIII B in the fifth period and taught the topic 'Uniform and Non-uniform velocity'. There was a quiz competition organized by Maths club in the afternoon. On 1/08/2023, there was weekly assembly organized by X B students. A short message and quote for thought was given by Anandhakrishnan from X B and Jiya from VII A. I took a class on VIII B in the third period on the topic 'Acceleration' from the chapter 'Motion' and our teacher Dr. Rosamma Philip came to observe my class. After the class, the teacher gave valuable suggestions for the improvement of my class. 

On 2/08/2023, I had no class as per timetable but got a substitution at IX B in the fourth period and conducted the post-test as a part of my project work. On 3/08/2023,  I had class at IX A in the second period and taught about the ' Chemical Formula' from the chapter' Chemical Bonding'. In the third period, I conducted the post-test for IX A in the third period as a part of my project work. On 4/08/2023, I had class at class at VIII B and taught the topic 'Retardation' from the chapter Motion. In the seventh period, I had class at IX A and presented my innovative work album about 'Covalent bonding'. The students curiously go through the work and clarified their doubts.

School Internship phase II - Week 7

The School Internship Phase II - week 7 was from 24/07/2023 to 29/07/2023. On 24/07/2023, I had mid term exam duty in the first period in VIII C. As per timetable, I had class at VIII B in the fifth period. But I didn't get that period as the mid term was conducted in that period in the afternoon session. I had exam duty at fifth period in IX A. On 25/07/2023, I had exam duty at IX A in the first and second period as the exam duration was 1 hour 15 minutes. As a part of my project work, I took a class on Neutralization reaction in the sixth period at IX A and also got a substitution period at V A in the fourth period where I helped them to read books. Also, a one day workshop for the Higher Secondary Teachers in the Pathanamthitta district 'Unnathi' was conducted in the school auditorium from 10 am to 4 pm. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Divya S Iyer, District Collector of Pathanamthitta and the acdemic session as handled by Sri. Ashok Kumar, RDD, Chengannur.  

On 26/7/2023, I got a substitution period at IX A in the second period and taught the topic 'Polar nature' from the chapter Chemical Bonding. Also had a substitution period at VI B and played word game to develop their word acquisition skills and memory power. On 27/7/2023, I had class at IX A in the seventh period and taught the topic 'Valency' from the chapter Chemical Bonding. As a part of Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam Remembrance day, science club members along with teachers presented a short biographical film of Dr. Kalam. The biography was quite interesting for the students and they watched it eagerly. After that, there was a quiz competition for upper and high school students.  The students participated in the quiz and Jonathan from IX A got the first prize in the competition. In the fifth period, I took a class on pH as part of my project work. There was no class on 28/7/2023 as the Government declared holiday for Muharam. On 29/7/2023, I had no class as the school scheduled PTA meeting from 1:30 pm onwards. In the fourth period, I conducted the post-test in IX B for my project work. 

 

School Internship Phase II - Week 6

The School Internship Phase II -week 6 was from 17/7/2023 to 22/7/2023. But 17/7/2023 was a public holiday and 18/7/2023 was a holiday declared by the Government to mourn the departed soul of former Chief Minister Sri. Oomman Chandy. On 19/7/2023, I had no class but got substitution in VIII C at the first period and taught some simple tricks for doing mathematical calculations. A silent prayer was also offered for the departed soul of the former chief minister in the morning assembly. 

On 20/7/2023, I had class at IX A and taught the topic 'Covalent compounds' in the second period. Also, I had exam duty VII A in the first period and IX C in the fifth period. On 21/7/2023, the school celebrated 'International Moon day' by creating a poster on the importance of moon day and specialities of moon. As a part of celebration, the science club organized letter writing and poster making competition. I had class at VIII B in the sixth period and taught the topic 'Uniform and non-uniform speed' from the chapter Motion. Then, I had class at IX A in the seventh period and taught the topic 'Electronegativity' from the chapter Chemical Bonding. Also had substitution at V A in the second period and VII A in the fourth period where I helped the students to complete the notes. On 22/7/2023, I had exam duty in the first period at V B and fifth period at IX A. This was a compensatory working day as per Monday's timetable, but I didn't get the fifth period in VIII B as the mid term exam  was scheduled in that period. 

 

School Internship Phase II - Week 5

The School Internship Phase II -week 5 was from 10/7/2023 to 15/7/2023. On 10/7/2023, there was the inauguration of Vayanakalari in the school with the help of Providence College, Pathanamthitta. The program was inaugurated by handing over the Malayala Manorama newspaper by College authorities to the Principal and Headmistress of the school. In the fourth period, I conducted the pre-test for IX B as a part of my project work. I had Physics class at VIII B in the fifth period and taught the topic 'Rules for writing units' from the chapter Measurements and Units. On 11/7/2023, I got a substitution period at IX A in the fourth period and started the next chapter in Chemistry, taught the topic 'Octet electron configuration' from the chapter 'Chemical Bonding'. I also took the first class of my project work in IX A on the topic ' Acids and its properties' in sixth period. The use of virtual lab in the classroom was a new experience for the students. 

On 12/7/2023, I had class at VIII B in the second period and taught the topic 'Reference body'  from the next chapter Motion. There was a quiz competition organized by Malayala Manorama 'Read and Win' and the students from higher secondary got the prizes. Then I had a substitution period at VI A and played a game to enhance the memory capacity. The inauguration of science club for the academic year 2023-2024 was took place on 13/7/2023. The program was inaugurated by Ms. Gracen Mathew, HM in the presence of science subject teachers of UP and High School. The various activities of science club that is going to be conducted in the current year is discussed by the members. In addition to that coordinators from each class, Secretary and Joint Secretary was also selected in the meeting.  I had class at IX A in the second period and taught the topic 'Ionic bonding' and class at VIII B in the fourth period and taught the topic 'Distance and displacement'. In the fifth period, I conducted the diagnostic test for VIII B students based on the chapter Measurements and Units. I took the second class of my project work on the topic 'Nature of non-metallic oxides' in the sixth period at IX A. 

On 14/7/2023, I had class at VIII B in the fifth period, where I taught the topic 'Speed and Velocity' and in IX A, I taught the topic 'Covalent Bonding' using puzzle pieces in the seventh period. I got a substitution period at VII C and conducted word game. On 15/7/2023, it was a compensatory working day of 3rd July due to St. Thomas day. There was a scholarship program organized by Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and Catholicate Higher Secondary School. The program was inaugurated by Sri. Ramesh Chenithala, MLA and Sri. P J Kuriyan, former Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha and selected students got scholarship for the higher studies. 

Innovative Lp - Covalent Bond types

I prepared an innovative lesson plan to teach the covalent bond and its types. I developed a lesson plan by using various puzzle pieces to illustrate the formation of different types of covalent bond. In each puzzle piece, an element and its valence electrons are represented. The puzzle pieces were given to each group and instructed them to create different molecules by keeping in mind octet electron configuration. After creating molecules from the puzzle pieces, the students were allowed to paste the molecules on the space provided near the whiteboard. The representative from each group explained the idea behind the joining of puzzle pieces and also gave information regarding the number of shared electrons between each elements. Based on the information, students understand the formation of various covalent bonds by combining different elements.

School Internship Phase II - Week 4

The School Internship Phase II - week 4 was from 3/7/2023 to 7/7/2023. But 3/7/2023 was a holiday for St. Thomas day declared by the school management. On 4/7/2023, I had no class but got a substitution period at VIII B in the first period and taught the topic 'Density' from the chapter Measurements and Units. Also got a substitution period at VIII C in the seventh period and gave some tricks to do mathematical calculations easily. On 5/7/2023, there was a program organized by Deepika newspaper named 'Nammude Bhasha' to enhance the reading habit of newspaper among students. Also, there was the opening ceremony of Plus one batch 2023 'Pradeepthi 2023'. After the inaugural session, there was an orientation class 'From Knowledge to wisdom'  by Mr. Rijo John, Asst. Professor, Catholicate College, Pathanamthitta. I got a substitution period at V B where I acquainted the students with the contributions of Malayalam writer Vaikom Mohammad Basheer in accordance with his remembrance day. There was no class on 6/7/2023 and 7/7/2023 as per the holiday order of District Collector. 

 

                    

School Internship Phase II - Week 3

The school internship phase II - week 3 was from 26/6/2023 to  1/7/2023. On 26/6/2023, there was the program in accordance with International Day of Drug Abuse. Various cultural programs like mime, dance, skit took place in the morning assembly. In addition to that there was a message by JRC cadet and took pledge by all students for the removal of drug usage among students. I had class at IX A in the fifth period and taught the topic 'Atomic number and Mass number' from the chapter Structure of atom. JRC selection exam for the current academic year was took place in the school auditorium and I got a chance to coordinate and supervise the exam with the help of concerned teacher. On 27/6/2023, I got a class at VIII B in the fourth period and taught the topic 'Fundamental and derived units' from the chapter Measurements and Units. But a student's political party called for a strike statewide and there was no class in the afternoon session. 

There was no class on 28/6/2023 and 29/6/2023 as the Government declared holiday for Bakrid. On 30/6/2023, I had class at IX A in the seventh period and taught the topic 'Electronic configuration' from the chapter Structure of atom. There was an awareness program by a Charitable Society of Ernakulam on the topic 'Awareness for the prevention of alcoholism, drug and tobacco addiction and Suicide Counselling and Motivation class'. The class was helpful for the students to know about the dark sides of drugs. On 1/7/2023, I had class at VIII B in the first period and taught the topic 'Area and Volume' from the chapter Measurements and Units'. Also had a class at IX A in the sixth period and taught the topic 'Isotopes' from the chapter Structure of atom. In the fifth period, I conducted the pre-test as a part of my project work in IX A. 

 

                                  

                                        

 

School internship Phase II - Week 2

The School Internship Phase II - week 2 was from 19/6/2023 to 23/6/2023. On 19/6/2023, I had class at VIII B in the fifth period and taught the topic 'Measuring length' from the chapter Measurements and Units. There was Reading Day celebrations in the school auditorium from 10 am to 11:30 am. Various programs like recitation, story telling, book donation, inauguration of Library for the academic year 2023-2024. On 20/6/2023, I took a class on 'Mass' for VIII B from the chapter Measurements and Units in the first period. Then taught the topic 'Rutherford Model of Atom' from the chapter Structure of Atom for IX A in the fifth period. I got a substitution at V B in the seventh period and conducted a word game for the students. On 21/7/2023, I had class at VIII B in the third period and taught the topic 'Time' from the chapter Measurements and Units. Then took the class at IX A and taught the topic 'Bohr model of atom' from the chapter Structure of atom in the sixth period. I also prepared question paper for the selection of JRC candidates for the new academic year. As per teacher's instruction, I prepared 50 questions from General knowledge, Social science and Science. I couldn't go to school on 22/7/2023 and 23/7/2023 due to the demise of my grandmother. 

                                     

 

School Internship Phase II - Week 1

The School Internship Phase II - week 1 was from 14/6/2023 to 16/6/2023. As it was our first day of school internship, we reported to the Headmistress of the school and collected the timetable from the subject teachers. There was a special assembly for celebrating World Blood Donation day organized by JRC cadets. There was an awareness program on the importance of blood donation and the program was inaugurated by Headmistress Ms. Gracen Mathew. I had class at IX A and taught the topic 'Dalton's atomic theory' from the chapter Structure of atom. There was a motivational and guidance class as a part of Merit day 'Excellentia 2023'. The class was handled by Prof. Alias Janson, Vice Principal, Mar Baselius Engineering College, Idukki. 

On 15/6/2023, I had class at VII B in the sixth period and taught the topic 'Length' from the chapter Measurements and Units. Also, I had substitution at VIII C in the first period and conducted a quiz competition for them. Then I had substitution at V B in the second period, VIII B in the fourth period and IX B in the seventh period. In these classes, I helped the students to improve the reading skills. Overall, the first week helped me to prepare the lesson plans by considering the needs of the students.
